Birdseed

The word is ....
Green said they are going after one free agent offensive linemen, and then draft one.
Bryant Johnson is on the trading block - Philadelphia might be interested.
I am hoping they keep Calvin Pace - he only counts 1.2 mill against the cap and actual salary of $600,000 if he remains in the final year.
Rod Graves apparently likes Vince Young if available at #10
Kurt privately spoke with Rod Graves to make sure the organization is doing what it can to bring in players to win - Kurt was satisfied with the answer.

I just purchased my season tickets for next year and the ticket agent says they are expecting 50,000 season tickets sold this year! That's awesome and I hope it is true and we have about 5 sellouts this year. Bring on the Cardinals fans!

Kurt Warner Signed

Well, I was wrong on my last post about when we would sign Kurt. It didn't take me long to turn negative about the Cardinals - I hate when I do that - I get positive and people are laughing.

Reportedly Kurt signed a 3 year deal worth 18 Million, with another 6 million possible with incentives. Cardinals bent a little, but if he is able to complete a season, and complete 65% of his passes like he did last year (officially 64.5% a new team record) then the money is well spent. I think the biggest worry is him completing a whole season - hence the incentives. I will put another poll up later on how many games he will last. Last year, 35% of the readers were correct in the first five games.
Check out these impressive numbers from Fox Sports:
"His 73 appearances in eight NFL seasons, Warner has passed for 19,214 yards and 119 touchdowns. career completion percentage of 65.7 (1,537-for-2,340) is the highest ever in the NFL, and his lifetime quarterback rating of 94.1 is second to Hall of Famer Steve Young (96.8) among quarterbacks who have thrown at least 1,500 passes."
The highest completion percentage in the NFL ever!

I agree with Rick Billou (spelling?) on the Sprting News Radio - Cardinals will be very scary if we go out and sign a stud Runningback like Shaun Alexander or Edgerrin James.

I am shooting for a 11 win season.

bits and pieces

I always get frustrated at the lack of respect Cardinals get. Not that is surprises me. I watched most of the Pro-bowl to see Larry Fitzgerald. He has the longest catch of the Pro-bowl, the most amazing one at that (he jumped over 3 defenders) and he is never thrown to again. Jake D kept throwing to over-rated Santana Moss, who kept dropping the ball. Moss then catches one, and he fumbles. It was frustrating. Rackers did good as usual.

The skuttle over Kurt going to Detroit has not died down. I really think Kurt is using it as barganing power. It appears more and more that he will not be re-signed until after March 3 to weigh other offers. Kurt reportedly wants $7M up front. A little high for a QB who will only play 8 games next year. They should give him and incentive contract based on starts. I think the Cardinals may get left out in the cold, because I think Josh McCown will sign on March 3rd or 4th elsewhere, and they will not be able to go back to him. It is critical for us to make the playoffs next year that we have Kurt of Josh.

The Cards re-sign Robert Tate - probably won't make the team, but I like the guy. We need to find another mid-level veteran CB out there - and safety.

Is Ernest Shazor ready to play ft next year?

Our Laads has the Cardinals drafting a safety from Texas in the first round - yikes, I hope this doesn't happen. I want Lendale White, or a linebacker like AJ Hawk or a stud DL.

A few more days until my season ticket appointment.

Mike Martz accepts OC in Detroit

Martz has officially accepted the OC job in Detroit. What does it mean for the Cardinals - Martz is interested in bringing in Kurt Warner. They are also interested in McCown. Reports are that Kurt wants about 7 Mill a year. Cards are offerring about 5.5 mill a year. If Kurt doesn't come down, Green will tell him to keep walking. What a difference a year makes. Last year, Chicago brought in Kurt for a back-up role, a few other teams looked at him for a back-up role. Cards bring him in to compete for a starter (wink wink) - now he is looked around the league as someone who can start, and get some money too.
The writing is on the wall that Josh McCown may even be here. If the Cards can't agree to terms with Kurt - McCown will get the deal, Green has said they looked around the league and they already have the two best guys here that fit in our system. Interesting ----

Scoop

Apparently Cards are interested in Antwan Randel el. He would fit nicely as a third WR and kick returner. You could even make him your 3 QB. But why would he come here to be #3? The Bears want him as well, he will be #2 there, and he is #2 with Pitt. I'm not sure what we could offer him in terms of wanting to be a Cardinal.
The Cardinals are also interested in Seahawks all-pro guard Steve Hutchison. Now this would be a great pick-up and there would be a chance we could grab him. We have the money and could show him the money like we did Pete Kendall from Seattle.
It is reported that Cardinals offered a very fair deal for Kurt around $5 m a year. It think that is appropriate. Apparently Kurt wants more up front - I'm not sure what the signing bonus was, but he wants more. I'm sure the deal will be done before free agency March 2.

Does it bother anyone else that the Seahawks were screwed by the refs! The first TD should have been a td (no offensive PI): Ben R. did not get in: The one foot in, the second foot hit the pylon before half should have been a TD for Seattle (by rule): It was not holding in the 4th q to bring Seattle to the one yard line: There were 2 offsides calls missed on Pitt: Chop block on Hassleback?
It bothers me for many reasons, but also because if the Cardinals ever got to the Superbowl, they would ben screwed too because they are not a media darling.

Frank Bush promoted

I understand why they did this, to reward him for not allowing Bush to speak to the Texans, but my question is, how does the hiearchy work? I know this is common, to be the linebackers coach or other position and then be the assistant head coach, but doesn't the linebackers coach report to the defensive coordinator? Then the DC reports to the assistant head coach. It's kind of that circular hiearchy (also found at the top of Cardinals Organization) found in disfuntional organizations. O well, not my problem to work on. As long as we win next year, I don't care if they have one coach or 30 head coaches, let's win 11 or more and go deep in the playoffs.
